A Global Alliance to Expand the Oncology Workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa
Go Together is a global alliance working to strengthen the oncology workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa. With support from Rutgers Global Health Institute, we partner with governments, healthcare institutions, and non-profits to train healthcare workers, improve access to cancer care, and build sustainable solutions.
Over 10 million
Cancer kills nearly 10 million people a year worldwide. About 70% of these deaths are in low- and middle-income countries.
7 out of 10
In sub-Saharan Africa, 7 out of 10 cancer patients will die from it, and the number of cancer deaths per year is expected to double by 2040.
Less than 1 in 1,000,000
On average, there is less than 1 oncologist for every 1 million people in the region. The shortage of trained healthcare workers is one of the main reasons for cancer’s high mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa.

Goal #1: Establish a joint learning, training, and knowledge exchange with collaborative activities that leverage collective strengths and build capacity in the region.

Goal #2: Train healthcare workers on cancer care and prevention according to country needs.

Goal #3: Engage local and international stakeholders with their solutions
Behind Go Together is a dedicated team of experts, healthcare professionals, and advocates working to expand the oncology workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our diverse leadership and partners bring together experience from global health, academia, and policy to drive meaningful change in cancer care.
